Q & A with our owner James

Hey Everyone,

For this month’s blog, we thought we’d change things up a bit. We thought we’d give you the chance to pick the brains of the man who builds all our fantastic metal art – James. Today we will be sitting down with James (over a coffee) to answer a series of questions that we commonly receive to help you get the most out of your fire pit experience.

Q: How did you get started with Bel’s Metal Art?

A: It’s an interesting story. My mum Belinda had the idea of making key ring holders with her staffy Axel as she couldn’t find any good ones anywhere online. We marketed them on Axel’s social media accounts (yes, he’s Insta famous) and started to sell them to dog lovers. From there we took them to markets and it took off. From there we moved to fire pits with different designs. The rest, as they say, is history.

Q: What should I know before buying a fire pit?

A: There are a few different things to keep in mind when buying a fire pit. The first thing would be making sure that you’ve got space somewhere to put it. You’d be surprised how many people fail to take this into account. Our fire pits are 780mm (w) x 780mm (l) x 500mm (h) so get out the tape measure.

The next thing would be knowing why you want the fire pit. If you’re just entertaining outdoors, then a regulation fire pit is fine but if you want to take it camping then you’d be happier with one of our flat-pack models.

Thirdly, this might just be me, but I’d want to know that my fire pit is made to last. Often in our industry, the actual manufacturing is outsourced, and the quality just isn’t there with the end product. We use the finest Australian steel to handcraft our fire pits making them there to last.

Finally, think of a cool design. Impress your friends. We can work with any kind of pattern or image that you like. Don’t be afraid to get creative.

Q: Besides fire pits, what would you say is the next most popular product that Bel’s Metal Art sells?

A: After our fire pits, I would say our wall art is our next most popular product. It’s a cool thing to have in your backyard. We build custom-fabricated metal wall art designs to improve your outdoor setting. We get pictures from happy customers all the time saying how it’s the talk of their dinner parties!

Q: Given most of the products you offer are quite large, what delivery options do you offer?

A: All our products can be picked up from our factory in Melton, Melbourne. If Melton is a bit too far for you to come to pick up your fire pit, we can also work with you to organise delivery for a reasonable fee.

Q: How soon after purchasing can I receive my custom fire pit?

A: As all our fire pits are hand crafted from the finest Australian steel, we like to take the extra time and attention to make sure you’re 100% happy with your fire pit. Remember our fire pits are customisable to any shape or pattern you provide us with. Once we have locked in the design that you’re after, we can have your fire pit ready in as little as two weeks.
